India-Burundi Foreign Office Consultations: Diversifying Collaboration Through Dialogue
In a significant diplomatic milestone, India and Burundi recently concluded their second Foreign Office Consultations in Bujumbura on December 12, 2023. Led by Shri Puneet R. Kundal, Joint Secretary Ministry of External Affairs, and Ambassador Ernest Niyokindi, the delegations reviewed various aspects of their bilateral relationship.
The discussions covered political exchanges, development partnership, trade, and economic matters, emphasising cooperation in areas like agriculture, education, health, digital technology, and renewable energy. Both sides pledged to intensify and diversify collaboration, reflecting a commitment to a dynamic and expanding partnership.
Multilateral issues, including cooperation in the UN, were also on the agenda, highlighting the alignment of interests on the global stage. The nations agreed to sustain engagement at official and political levels, ensuring the partnership remains vibrant and mutually beneficial.
Looking forward, the agreement to hold the next round of consultations in New Delhi emphasises the commitment to building on the positive momentum achieved in Bujumbura. The successful conclusion of these consultations marks a significant step toward deeper, more diversified diplomatic relations between India and Burundi.
