Israel and Palestine Situation: India's Stance
Earlier this month, the Ministry of External Affairs, India, elucidated its stance on the Israel and Palestine situation. The ministry stated, "Our policy concerning this issue has been steadfast and unwavering. We've consistently championed the recommencement of direct talks, striving for a sovereign, independent, and sustainable Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel."
Prime Minister Modi shared his perspective, saying, "The people of India stand firmly with Israel during these times. We unequivocally denounce terrorism in all its forms."
Actions in Response:
- A 24-hour Control Room has been set up at @MEAIndia for real-time monitoring of the Israel-Palestine situation, ensuring timely information dissemination and assistance.
- 24-hour emergency helplines have been launched at both the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, and the Representative Office of India in Ramallah, Palestine
In an effort to safeguard its citizens, the Indian government introduced Operation Ajay, facilitating the safe return of Indian nationals from the conflicted zones in Israel. The government is proactively coordinating with neighbouring countries and embassies in the region, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to the well-being of Indian citizens amidst the turmoil.
Junior External Affairs Minister V Muraleedharan conveyed that "Operation Ajay" is targeting the safe repatriation of nearly 20,000 Indians in the conflict zone amidst the Israel-Hamas hostilities. So far, approximately 1,000 have been evacuated through five flights. The government's advice to Indian citizens has been one of caution and registration with the embassy. Current data indicates a majority of the Indian diaspora in Tel Aviv, with a small segment still in Gaza.
Anti-Terror Initiatives
On October 17th, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval advocated for fully-funded programs assisting Central Asian nations against terrorism. Doval stressed the importance of regional connectivity. India and the UK are also bolstering their anti-terrorism cooperation, with India continuously urging the UK for a more stringent stance against Khalistani terrorists.
India and Vietnam: A Half-Century of Diplomatic Relations
In Hanoi, the Foreign Ministers of India and Vietnam released commemorative stamps celebrating 50 years of their diplomatic ties. These stamps spotlight the traditional martial arts of both nations: India's Kalaripayattu and Vietnam's Vovinam. This symbolizes the deep cultural and interpersonal bonds both countries share.
On October 16th, the 18th India-Vietnam Joint Commission convened, discussing mutual cooperation across diverse sectors and exchanging views on the Indo-Pacific realm.
India and Tanzania: Reinforcing Historical Bonds
From 8th-10th October 2023, Tanzanian President, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan's visit to India emphasized the strengthening bonds between both countries. Significant dialogues and ceremonies highlighted the vast potential of mutual trade, tech alliances, and defence collaborations. The visit culminated with the signing of various MoUs, ranging from digital infrastructure to maritime safety.
Oman's Economic Engagement with India
V. Muraleedharan, the Minister of State of External Affairs, met with H.E. Said Al Saqri, Oman's Minister of Economy, in Muscat. Their discussion centred on augmenting economic ties and intensifying political collaboration between both nations.
India and Sri Lanka: Rekindling Maritime Connectivity
After nearly 40 years, India and Sri Lanka have re-established an international passenger ferry service, run by the government-owned Shipping Corporation of India. This ferry connects Nagapattinam in India with Kankesanthurai in Jaffna, northern Sri Lanka.
